Pigeon catching

Did I tell you that my cat nearly caught a pigeon?!
I was so proud of her. Both of my cats are indoor cats but recently I've been letting them out on the balcony. There is a space between the bottom of the balcony fence and the floor of the balcony. Last week a pigeon landed on the out side of the fence on the tiny bit of a ledge on the floor of the balcony. Both cats could see the pigeon through the small space between fence and floor. Jasper was super fast, lunged for the pigeon and caught part of it with her claws. This startled the bird and it flew off in a noisy and haphazard manner. Both Jasper and Paisley looked up longingly as the bird joined its friends on the roof of the building. Since then numerous bugs have been chased into the apartment and eaten in a flurry of paws slamming windows, walls and carpet. A few sparrows have been stealthily approached while perched on the bird feeder but unless my cats grow wings there's no way they'll catch one of them.
